our origin story

When MMNYU began regularly meeting at the Women's National Republican Club in midtown, the NYU College Democrats on campus press release efforts on the matter were suppressed by President Hamilton's office. (Click button below for copy of press release)

Undeterred, they turned to their parent (state-level) organization, College Democrats of New York, who instead issued the on-the-record protest to Dr. Hamilton in their own name and subsequently issued an off-campus press release on the matter with New York area media outlets (NY Daily News, etc.).

This truly jarring and eye-opening episode brought to light the sad state of speech suppression at NYU and thus led to the formation (3/‘23) of what is today NYU's only free speech forum. Regardless of our origins, we are nonpartisan and promote a diverse range of opinions and contributors in order to encourage a virtuous campus environment for everyone. [Update: NYU currently faces accreditor complaint from a natn’l free speech organization]
